She emerged from her chamber, descending the stairs with measured steps. In the parlor, her father sat engrossed in his reading, puffing on a smoldering cigar.
"Off gallivanting, are you, Charlotte?" inquired her father, gesturing towards her and grasping her boot.
"Yes," replied Charlotte, slipping on her trusty brown boots.
Her gaze shifted to her sister, who busied herself with brewing a pot of coffee.
"Margaret, I'm venturing out. Do we require anything?" Charlotte queried.
"Nay, take care of yourself," Margaret responded with an affectionate tone.
Charlotte nodded, returning the smile, before shutting the door behind her and stepping into the world beyond.
The sky above wore a hue of blue adorned with wisps of white clouds, resembling an exquisite canvas. As she traversed the streets, a scene unfolded before her eyes—a pair of children frolicking and frolicking carefree.
"Mind your steps, young ones!" cautioned Charlotte as one of the children accidentally collided with her, causing her notebook to tumble.
"Oh, I beg your pardon, ma'am," uttered the child, his face etched with concern. "I didn't mean to."
Charlotte's lips curved into a gentle smile as she reassured him, "Fear not, dear. No harm done."
